All Matching 1918 Erfurt Kar98a Assistance

Hello,
I recently acquired an all matching 1918 Erfurt K98a, (No 1920 property mark) complete with sling. It is unit marked on the heel of the buttplate, L.Anh.30. Unfortunately, the vet who brought it back ground the bayonet lug flush and it is missing the stacking hook. I am looking to replace both of these parts. Any help identifying the unit or locating parts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
David

try the trader forum here. it's a long shot, many people need the stacking hook, but someone might be able to help you out. there is also eBay...

not sure about the unit mark. Honestly it does not sound Imperial but I'm not good with unit marks. Post an image of it if you can.

Yes, it is interwar police and you do not want to replace the stacking hook if it is matching (the base), it is typical to find interwar "police" rifles with the stacking hook removed. For many years collectors have speculated the reasons why, but the only thing for sure is it is common to find interwar police used Kar.98a with the hooks removed, - not always, not "usually", but it is common enough for it to be "probably" a characteristic used by some German police organizations (a varied and diverse subject).

At the very least do keep the base, do not discard it or misplace it, it should go with the weapon if you sell or trade it later.

I will move this rifle to the interwar section; this topic might get noticed there by an interwar police specialist and they might have some insight.

** I should note too that I have never seen the bayonet lug ground on one before; - this could indicate this was indeed done by the vet.

While searching through my database I came across another Kar.98a that has a close unit marking, - it was an Erfurt/17 S.Anh.42 (this one is property marked), it doesn't show that the stock matches the receiver, but it is described that it does, some of the pictures suggest problems with the rifle as to "originality" but the stock does have the bayonet lug and hook in place (not altered).

I will post the picture of the unit mark, but the area in question is not shown in any detail, only in the overview and it is a LR picture.

** actually the unit markings are not similar, filing it I realized one is Landjägerei (rural constabulary) the other Schutzpolizei (municipal), but same area, which means nothing as far as these features being kept.

Please allow me to clarify, no stacking hook or plate. These were not present at the time of purchase. I am more interested in replacing the bayonet lug. Unfortunately, as a new forum member I do not have access to the Trader at this time. Thank you for sharing your photo and information

Ok, I understand then, - perhaps a collector has a set they can spare, you might try on Gunboards-Mauser or their trader too, in the past collectors have helped out in this regard and a BL & SH should be easy enough to find. Unfortunately I do not have either.

K98king, keep a watch on ebay, I know just recently, I saw a stacking hook on there for your rifle. Ken

Many Thanks to rockisle1903 who was gracious enough to part with a proofed bayonet lug and pin.
