I picked up this byf 43 P38, it is " i " suffix marked, last week from a local seller. All matching except for the mag which is Walther e/359 x2 marked. Great pistol but as you can see in the pic's the barrel has what looks like a phosphate finish ? At first I was thinking dual tone but after some reading on P38's I don't think so. I have looked around on here and other sites but all the byf 43 P38's I've been able to find pic's of have blued barrels. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Hello,
P.38's started with the "dual tones" (part blued and part phosphating) in the byf44 range of pistols. To me, it looks like the barrel's finish is gone or almost gone. It's hard to tell due to the lighting. Put this one up on the P.38 boards at www.p38forum.com also. With better lighting your answer will be easier to obtain.

The numbered mag is for an earlier Walther P.38, ac41 or a little earlier. Post that one too as someone might have that gun and you could help matching up the mag with a pistol.

I have a byf 43 just a few serial numbers earlier than this one. The barrel is as deeply blued as the slide and frame. The sides of the slide still exhibit the polish that the Mauser factory was still using at this time.
