Damaged Kar98; Erfurt 1916

This I would call catastrophic battle damage, other than that it's a good gun. Straight bolt mismatch, with clear stamps and markings. The only thing I dislike about the damage personally is that it makes it so the stock can not be completely removed. Luckily the barrel code is above the wood.

Really a nice rifle, - you can tell its been there!

Righteous "Imperial" Kar98a are not all that common, especially ones that are original, not cleaned or polished up. They are very much like the G33/40's in that they were a popular sporter base and a lot were chopped up.

They were made in large numbers, very large numbers, but they were equally chopped up in large numbers. Easily the most numerous rifle I have owned over the years- and 3/4 were various parts rifles or sporters.

I once had one with a G29o barrel attached! People did odd things back then!

Thanks for the great pics- you alwasy take great pics!

I think it says something that the only Kar98's I have are both battle damaged, probably kept them from being sportered. I like it personally, really makes them stand out.

I do as well, - considering how many were made, its amazing how uncommon it is to find a really nice problem free wartime Kar98a.

While not scarce they certainly are not as common as production estimates would suggest. (they were made in enormous numbers- Erfurt was the largest Modell98 producer during the war, no one else even close...)
