As promised and long awaited, here are the pics of the SSD FG42 long Swallow Mount. I took several pics of the mount itself and also pics of the mount with my new Meopta Repro ZF4 (made by Meopta) mounted on the mount.
I know these mounts were used on the Type II FG42, I don’t know about the Type I. However, this is the mount that came with my SSD Type I FG42. I know that the ddx scope would be correct, but I haven’t been able to find one at a decent price and I want to shoot the FG42. That is why I went with the repro ZF4 made by Meopta. I thought it would have the best chance of standing up to recoil. Sadly, a range report will take some time due to my surgery. I know that Numrich has a repo ddx scope but they were not willing to import to Canada.
SSD sells these mounts (not cheap, I think $300-500) and the exact same Meopta Scope. However, it is much cheaper to order the scope from Frankonia and Frankonia applies for the correct export papers.
The mounting wasn’t that easy, start with the front ring and then the back. Collectors Publications book Death from Above 2nd edition was a great asset. See pages 112-113 as photographed. Senich also has some good pics in his books The German Sniper 1914-1945 and The Assault Rifle 1935-1945.
