I picked this up a while back, paid $420 for it. Sold it to a friend for $500, spent $250 of that on a No1 MkIII enfield, traded the enfield for a shooter grade 1903. Well my friend wants the 03 and offered this to me so i jumped on it because it was one rifle i have sold that i regretted. So starting Saturday it will be returning home. These are older pictures I already had, but I'll try and take some better ones Saturday when I get the rifle back.

What I'd really like to find is a blued bolt for this rifle so I keep an eye out for one.

At least you were smart enough to take every conceivable picture, - more often than not the rifles I once owned I do no have these quality pictures to show for it... good advice to take good pictures before you mail off a rifle in trade.

I have detailed pictures of every rifle I have ever owned. One I noticed I'm missing but will take Saturday is if I remember correctly there is an e/6 on the wrist of the stock

I was looking this rifle over compared to other 98m I have and have been wondering if this rifle might be an early import out of Spain. The condition just seems different for lack of a better word than the rifle I have thAt I know stayed in Germany. What are your thoughs on this? Part of my reasoning is that the finish is more of a black almost like what you find on some Russian capture. It's not import marked but I just get the feeling that it's a pre1968 import rather than a bring back.

Its kind of hard to see the color of the finish in these pictures I'll try to take a few in better lighting his week.

Hard to say where it came in from, though I doubt Spain, most of the rifles that came in from Spain are really worked over, I have seen a handful in somewhat decent (original) condition, but none even close to this one, - especially the stock.

Looking over your pictures, and there are a lot of them since 2005 when it first showed up, I see no markings to suggest foreign service. So even if it were a rifle from Spain, you are probably the luckiest person to have ever gotten a rifle from Spain, as it doesn't look tinkered with.

That seems to make sense, the condition has always thrown me off as I haven't seen too many like it and it looks similar to a CAI import that did come out of Spain only that one has been chopped to 98k length. Either way, quite happy with this rifle. Just a thought that came to mind.

Noticed I had neglected to take a picture of the barrel code for you. Here it is.

Thanks!

DWM used a lot of Böhler barrels in 1916 & 1917, which is strange because so far i have not recorded a single barrel, on a G98, made in 1915. Böhler did supply DWM for P08 production too, so they may have, but not so far on 1915 production. Maybe in 1915 they were busy supplying OEWG-Steyr?
