Spandau 1916 Gew98 without barrel code

I will post pics when I can, but the barrel is original and has no code whatsoever.
Just the Prussian acceptance eagle on the underside, just aft of the rear sigth base.

Paul - is this common?
 
It isn't common in the Imperial era. However, in the early interwar period it is common, as Simson does not use BC at first.. they adopt them sometime in 1926 or so.

Regarding this rifle, make sure its not in front of the rear sight assembly, or covered by it (see if you can find a partial) and also note the location of the fireproof and acceptance. Sometimes the BC is in front of the rear sight.

Also you might look at the bottom of the receiver for a sub-contractor mark from S&H, a little early for Pieper but S&H start in 1916 showing up, though very rarely.

BTW I have not forgot your Ludw.Loewe chart, been busy with the MRJ.
