Hi all,

My wife has bought me this high turret ZF39 for christmas. Now I'm still only a novice on German scopes so I'm looking to see if anyone Can tell me more about it, like maker and year of manufacture etc...

I have no idea about the rubber eye cup. As far as I know theres only 2 patterns?

The scope itself is optically and mechanically sound, just the exterior needs a good cleaning, although I doubt it will ever be back to its 100% original finish.

Thanks,

Paul.

Looks to be a nice original piece.

Nice wife...!

The maker is Hensoldt & Sohne , M,Optische Werke A-G,Wetzlar . The Year 43 or 44 not sure though Vaughn may know exactly . The Rubber Eye Cup is not WWII , but there are more than 2 types . 4 to 6 maybe more . Best Regards

Thanks for the info so far guys,

It was found in an antique shop near where we work, did not know exactly what it was until we got it home and started some research.

Yes, she does have a sister, but shes taken sorry lol.

I have given it a 2nd light clean, its getting better all the time:

Very nice scope. I would not rule out that the rubber was originally attached to it and keep it, further I would not make more steps of restoration, the more you do now, the more you take frm its historical substance. Paul (too).

I know what you mean, but the rusting on it would have destroyed it eventually, so am carefully removing it and leaving the original finish underneath.

I'm just wondering if reproduction high turret mount bases would fit the original rings, as I doubt I'll find an original set of mount bases to mate to a K98.

There is only one Person I know of who makes Reproduction Mounts that I would consider using those are Robert Spielauers the Repros HT Base he makes will fit I am sure of that , he makes Repros Identical to Originals . You can contact him at info@spielauer.com . Best Regards

Original bases do come up. About a year ago Sarco had one or two sets (I don't know if they sold).

AASSniper from France has bases but I don't know if they are original or repro. Most of his stuff is very good (both his original and repro kit).

The Bases at AASniper are repro not bad but not No where close to ones I mentioned.
The ones Sarco had were Argentine Low Turret original German Manufactured but never had High Turret ones at least not Original but Repro Yes . Sarco use to buy from Robert at least before Glenn got killed in a shooting Accident . Best Regards
