FG42 / ZF4 cast dovetail mount

Sold on egun a couple weeks ago for EUR 1900, the elusive "Cast Dovetail" mount. It's a beauty but I don't think it's a mature design with one clamping area only which is entirely relying on friction to secure it in place. Said to be a Krieghoff prototype. The scope is just for looks, all guts have been removed. But nevertheless, it's an "L" marked Voigtländer worth restoring.

Hi,
I have in my possession a reproduction of that and although it is a really nicely made mount my thoughts are like yours. I think it is going to walk on the top plate of the 42. I made sure the top plate was a very close fit for the customers rifle but hopefully he will give me some feed back on how well it works. I say that since I never shoot the rifle with a customer supplies scope or piece like this for fear of anything going wrong....

I hear you... There's a lot of recoil force pounding those poor ZF4's. The internals are very delicate, i.e. the joints for the windage lens and the elevation hinges. Yet they have to be able to take a good beating.

Since you are a machine shop, wouldn't this kind of a mount or the other milled versions be right up your alley? Estes is not very responsive and for a shop like yours milling a mount should be a breeze.
