I wonder why they dropped the majority of markings on the stock on my 42?
If memory serves, all I've got are one WaA plus the serial number and two "C's' (one larger and one small) all behind the heel..

Orders to trim down time spent on inspection so they could get rifles out the door. That's the same period speed milled bands, etc. were instituted to speed things up. The period docs on this are in the Km. book too.

Question in the same area.
how long did gusty keep 'waff' marking the TG?
how many years for serial on cupped BP
thanks
Sol

Ham that's a sweet example.
I think I can count the number of matching bcd 41's I have seen on one hand.

Thank you Don. Sol, they stopped numbering the buttplates early, roughly after first quarter of 1941 for most all makers.

Nice rifle...........

Do yours rifle have an C contract handguard?
The reason i ask is that mine has an C contract handguard
And behind the buttplate there is date and the mark BO,,but is BO an Sauer stock?

I have this ones cousin. 6149g Norwegian rework mostly original matching parts except bolt internals, mag follower, and rear sight.

restore?

Hello Everyone,

I have this Mauser that someone sporterized. I see from the photos that I'm actually missing too many marked parts, in my uneducated opinion, to restore it to original military condition. I'm curious as to any information I can get on it. Also if anyone thinks it is possible to restore it to original or should I just leave it as is? Thanks.

Rogan, your rifle was produced by Gustloff in 1941. You are better off leaving it "as is" and not restoring it. The metal buff/reblue work and those sights kill any collector value. You can pick up an honest bolt m/m for probably 500-800.

Craig,

My Gustloff k98k. A year earlier, a lot greasier.
