A lot of gun in a very small package. When compared to the bulk of a lot of other heavy MGs it is a marvel of teutonic engineering...semi reminiscent of the 34.
 
I believe those wooden grip sections to be postwar. All the German ones I've seen were bakelite, but a certain batch from postwar stores all contained wood sections - coincidence? Nice MG still though
