These 4 KKWs show the subtle differences
among this short run of 5-6K rifles by Mauser.

First, the whole pics

Welcolme officially to Bob-in-Ohio!!! Bob and I have chatted quietly now and again via email & traded blows on auctions here and there. He's another guy passionate about trainers and has some screamers. 'As shown'. I was wondering when he was going to start bead-dazzling our new trainer forum. I'd say it starts now!!! :hail:

Nice layout and mix of early and late Mauser kkw's. Mauser's variation would be the one to most resemble the k98k it was meant to replicate. Later version even used a standard k98 rear sight tube/base & the addition of a sight hood was added. I assume these were produced and updated in the same period when k98's had sight hoods added.
late 40/early41..The lower bands as shown have a real rough finish to them. Much rougher than production k98 bands of the same period. I have two and they show the same un-polished blued finish.

Banner variation/ early small. late large. I have not seen enough to say when the change was made. Only that early rifles with early features have the small banner and the later the latter..Rear of receiver on both types bare Mauser's name/address & rifle modell..

Thx M99-

The thing is, even these four do not show linear trends across serials.
I find it interesting, what should be relatively early by sn can have later features.
Apparently, the inspection process apparently set some of these back for later finishing
(even with only a 5-6K run of rifles)

Yes, with the four you have it's a clear you have 2]early 2]late. Yes, they share very little in common as far as small features. I'd say the latter was to simplifie the process of making these rifles. But, it really did'nt seem to increase production. Later version are just as scarce as earlier type..Good topic for disscussion.
