Jon thought some of us would like to see some of the tools used by Mauser to make the Flak38 (American made too, oops...):

"on a totally esoteric Mauser subject here are pics of a special Milling tool used by Mauser in WW 2 for work on the Flak 38 anti-aircraft cannon in 20mm. What is so cool the tool is from a US provider ! Also the tool coding for the Flak 38 is also shown. All Mauser tools were coded for each weapon and which Part it was used for. Most interesting paper weight !!"

"needed to add the date on the Milling tool is Jan.20 1940. The actual Milling work step was 71 in the process for the part"

Profile milling tool for the Mg 81

Another from Jon Speed:

"My favorite milling tool is a Profile Milling tool for the Mg 81 and it has also the Luft Amt eagle you can see between the 2 numbers 6 in 2nd image. The whole unit is coded for Mg 81 and shows that on any Contracted weapon for the Luft folks even the tooling had to be Luft Amt eagle marked. Remember, thousands of tools were used on each contract so think of the tedious procedures that took place, Boggles the mind! You can also put this in the German Machine gun site ?? Jon

Here is a pretty cool piece on the MG131..no vid of it firing, but for those that dig the mechanics and and engineering of such devices it is very interesting.. fascinating really..

Supposedly this is one of only five known remaining in the world..? Perhaps them mean in private hands.
