Bill, you da Museum-Man.

I love that "mortar round". Can you place it next to one of the rifled rounds to give us some context of size? Was it fired in the Z-Pistole also?

I found documentation that I included in my Auto Mag article on flare pistols some years ago that the police provided training for the use of these one the eastern front to repel massed Soviet attacks.

Joe, I would think that the complete message round with smoke identifacation marker once it landed,, is possibly the rarest of all the 'Z' rounds, it consisted of message paper, pencil, and smoke trace as well as ground smoke marker...BILL

BOB, 'Z' Rounds are difficult to find in good condition...I had a few I got in France some years ago, but some came with the weapon itself...I'll have it at SOS '11 for show and tell...glad you like it, see you in a couple of weeks...BILL
