Bill,

If a tenth of the members posted like you we would be so lucky.
Thanks for posting.

Were all para's rust free? A friend has one that is mostly brown if I remember it right. JL

Hello Bill,

It looks to be a nice gravity knife.
There a lot of fakes around, if I'am not mistaken original examples have a Waffen prüfungs stamp on the pin, the examples I owned in the past had.
Does yours have such a stamp on it?

Btw these weren't an exclusive tool for the Fallschirmjäger, they were issued to everyone that used a parachute, this includes airgunners, pilots,...etc.

Cheers,
Peter

Type 2 Luft Gravity Knife

Here's a pretty nice type 2 takedown model with the blued finish and stainless blade. No Luftamp on the spike on this type. My type 1 does have one however. Enjoy.

Not teaching you guys to suck eggs, but did you know it was a Luftwaffe aircrew item and later issued to Fallschirmjäger.

- Indeed!
And it isn't a good fighting knife either, it makes a lot of noice, the blades rattles in the shaft; it is designed to cut yourself free from your parachute if you landed in a tree or so and because of the gravety action you can open the knife with one hand.
But they are nice knifes anyway.
