Reworked K98a with unit marked buttplate and takedown disk.

Takedown disk unit marking = 3.Schwadron Reiter Regiment 17, Waffe#85, Bayrisches (Weimar period)
3rd squadron, cavalry regiment 17, gun 85, Bavarian

Buttplate unit marking = Reichsbahndirektion, Halle as the station/HQ location.

nice rifle Nick. I kick myself for not buying it. You missed the one photo of what makes an early kar98a so special. They had a totally different triggerguard. I think they went to a shared trigger guard with the G98 in 1914....

Here's the bayonet to go with it. The frog is marked "Bahnschutz, RBD Halle (S)" and is nearly impossible to read, never mind taking a picture of it.

Wow...you're right. I dont even think I've got a picture of the floorplate and trigger guard. Have to take one....

No changes in K98a triggerguard from introduction in 1907/08 through termination of production in 1918. The Gew 98 triggerguard does not interchange.

Really nice rifle and bayonet- the Bahnschutz is a fascinating subject, and covered in some detail in the March 2010 MRJ, - as an organization.

The focus is the DRP Mauser Banners but hard to cover the DRP Postschutz without commenting on the Reichsbahn.

I may be wrong as I often am. But this example has a much longer 'tail' for lack of a better term than later and other examples I've seen and owned... Maybe he can post a picture of it..:baby:
