Here are pictures taken last hour from the current condition of the VIIth army HQ in Le Mans.
The VIIth army was in charge of the Brittany and Normandy from April 1941.

The "civilian part" was an Insurance company until the Germans took possession of it.
In Mars 1942, the Germans has made a "bunker" just accross the street, next to a girls school.
From the D-Day to the liberation of Le Mans, in August 1944, only the blockhaus was used. It is there that the General Friedrich Dollmann died, officially from a heart attack, unffocially from suicide...

The blockhaus is untouched since, just emptied, and still a part of the same school, except it is now opened to boys also.
The civilian part was returned to the insurance company after the war. It this now an hotel.

Let me know if you are interested by this kind of pictures and explanations.

Great stuff BSW! I wish I had a couple months to roam through France and Belgium, eating and drinking wine and beer, enjoying all of this.
