Edit: Updated with new pics
This is a neat all-matching Dutch No.4 Carbine intended for use by bicyclists and no doubt used extensively by the occupying Germans. Originally produced at Hembrug in 1918 in an unknown configuration, and then reworked apparently in 1939. Only about 18k were produced. It is hands-down the smoothest action I have ever handled. It also has the neat wooden plate on the side of the magazine to prevent the metal from tearing at the uniform.

And the stock. Handled, but never sanded. The number in the channel does not match, but external matching number on the side under the bolt release, and a curious extra matching stock serial number on the underside of the butt in the German style. The stock is clearly original to the gun IMO. Handguard matches.

I think Ive seen VZ24s?? and maybe one or two other gus that were Spanish Civil war guns that had serials stamped into the wood, one I know, I cant remember which type though, had a MM (original number) stock but matched like this?
I dunno, just a guess...I dont know squat about these, but your photos are great and the rifle looks to be in really nice condition

Of course, Bill has to show off his Nazi 6.5 ammo. Who knew the Germans even manufactured the stuff? Awesome!:hail:

Ditto! I've seen a couple of Dutch carbines marked this way with a number on the side. I'm guessing this may have been standard practice for a rework. Unfortunately, there are no significant books on the Nederlandse Karabijnen en Geweren in English. The one book that discusses them in any appreciable length is entirely in Dutch and impossible to find. I might post it over GB and see if any of the Mannlicher experts over there have any idea...
Thanks for the very kind remarks, gentleman. I'm hoping to have some time this weekend to photo 1 or 2 of the 98s I have not shared.
