I bought an "Imperial" Yugo Model 1924 rifle recently (all matching but bolt. All pre-communist), and naturally had to have a Yugoslav or FN long M'24 bayonet to go with it. These are getting UNCOMMON.

Well, I think I lucked out. On my first attempt at searching, I found THIS one. It arrived here yesterday, and I am VERY happy.

Opinions: is this a Yugoslav made M'24 bayonet modified by the Germans, or is it an M'24 bayonet MADE with a German 98/04 crossguard (suitably modified) - remember the Yugos reworked a LOT of imperial German bayonets, and COULD have used a spare crossguard in new production.

I tend to think it is German modified (HOPING maybe?), but what say ye?

To my knowledge the Yugos modified only the German S98/05 by removing the downward guard and narrowing the blade. Those bayos are usually heavily blued.

BTW, what is a 98/04?

A 98.04 is a typographical error S98/05 :)

So, potentially German modified, unless perhaps the Yugos just reused a crossguard from a German bayonet. Possible.

Any German markings left side of blade? Neither the pommel configuration nor the grip screwbolts are German. Perhaps FN-made. You really ougght to query the folks on the Bayonet Collectors Network.

No, it's fully Yugo made. I was just wondering if PERHAPS a salvaged crossguard was used.

Posted this on Gunboards Mauser forum too - seems it probably IS German modified.

When germans removed the barell ring so its by them modified, the signs speaks for yugo production. The crossguard is origin.
