Greetings heres a question for mrfarb. I was at a local car show and in all the car parts at one stand I was able to find this Luftschutz Helmet. What's neat is that the padding inside is the slandered dark gray and the rest a flower pattern, whys is that? Was this made so late in the war that they ran out of materiel or is it salvaged clothes from the Camps?
Enjoy.

luftshutz helmet

These helmets as common as they are really neat.. There are more variations of these things you might not ever see them all.. This is what total war was all about. They used everything they could get there hands on to make stuff. These are scrap pieces of fabrik used to make the pillow pockets on this helmet. They cant really be seen so it did'nt matter what they used.. Not sure what Farb has to with it... Maybe its a piece of his wifes table cloth ????

As mauser99 said, these have a lot of variations. This one is known as "bed sheet" :moon:

Too funny thanks guys. I thought this was something very late and I know mrfarb likes late war stuff. Thanks again for the great info guys.

I don't think this is a very late one.

I have a late one I will post. One piece with cheese cloth liner.

I would love to see those pic's of your late war Luft! I'd like to learn more about theses common but somewhat over looked helmets.
