Erfurt 1915 Mauser 98 stock question

I just obtained an Erfurt 1915 Mauser 98, and I know nothing about this weapon. It appears to have a short stock. Can anyone tell me if this stock is original or has someone messed with this rifle?

It is missing about half it's stock, & it's hand guard. The stock was cut to make a light sportier rifle.
