SA Fun, MG34 with Lafette and SSD BD44 (MP44)

I am on leave and finally had time for some fun.

First task was finishing my Yugo refurb Lafette tripod which I posted pics of earlier. I removed the paint to find only 2% remaining paint. Due to the mixed maker marks it was probably fully refurb'd and painted at least twice. Oh well, I just had to refinish it in what is close to Panzer grey. I know one member was going to help me with paint, but I wouldn't be able to import the paint into Canada, so I did the best I could.

The Lafette had some really nice maker marks and looks pretty sharp once done.

Step two: Off to the range with my TNW MG34. The Lafette is deadly, only 2-3 shoots to zero in on an oil drum at 100 and 200 yards. Imagine how easy it would be with tracers and full auto fire. The Lafette functioned flawlessly and was almost more fun than the MG itself. I had some TNW ejection probems but that is either an ejector or extraction problem that I will need to deal with later.

Step three: Test out the SSD BD44. The unmolested German made PTR as my American counter parts would know it. With privi ammo it worked almost perfectly, the odd jam and some short stroking which lead to some dirty looks from the other range patron shooting his sks, but heck, it created some nice supressive fire on the oil drums at the 100 and 200 yard mark.

Great day at the range.
