Hello all
Please find pictures of this 22LR sportmodell rifle.
I think production just before they change to KKW.
Do you know how many dsm 34 were built by BSW ?
regards
Xavier

very nice !!!

Thats only the second BSW of that type I have seen. There were two batches. One early one late. This is of the later type. It has the second version logo. Youres is in the 180000 range. They made the 625c in this same range. Then the 625L in the 190,000 range just before the introduction of the kkw. Early BSW kkw's lead off in the high 190,000 range and end in the 200,000 range. Then the switch over to Gustloff werke.

Very nice example of a scarce dsm34. Thanks for showing it !!!

simson/bsw logos

no

there are no dsm34's with gustloff werke markings. Bsw had switched over to kkw production well before the name change.

BSW/Gustloff-Werke

Although no Deutsches SportModell-34 Gustloff rifles, Gustloff did make a Sportmodell. Not quite in the style of the DSM, it fits the genre of the Mauser smallbore target rifles.

and also a Prazisions-Karabiner.

Cool

thanks, Dan. I have never seen one of these gustloff werke sportmodells. But, there is the proof in black and white. I have seen pleanty of gustloff werke marked 617K's which was an old simson/BSW rifle and the presisionkarbine and the occasional shotgun. Never this elusive sportmodell...I'd say they didnt make many. As always thanks for adding to the disscussion. That Akah book is paying off..

BSW engineer Happ produced a hand-finished prototype of a BSW Meisterschaftsbuchse in the spring of 1936, and they discussed allowing R & D funding to produce it and also a BSW Sportmodell (same action with fewer bells and whistles in sights and stock configuration). Plans were to present the prototype at Wannsee for testing that summer. If it was well-received there, production was to begin in August 1936.
They were attempting to compete with Mauser's ES 340 B and ES 350 B, and more importantly with Walther's Modell 5 and Meisterschaftsmodell. The funding request for R & D was RM 4,000 for labor and RM 1,200 for materials. No mention is made later of the Wannsee testing, but the two models do appear in catalog listings. Recorded numbers do not indicate that many were made or sold.

Just like Mauser99 said, that is a very nice example of a very rare rifle. I have one but it is not nearly as nice as yours, someone decided to tap it for a scope and alter the bolt handle slightly so it would clear the scope. At some point I hope one comes up so I can upgrade mine. Have you shot yours yet? Mine shoots like a dream.
