I know you will ask but i can't find it on gunbroker. there was a Gew98 1903 DWM with a weird crown fireproof it hit 2K and was hoping to see a discussion of it but NONE of the forums mentioned it and would like to know more about this one and why the price. is this typical proof for DWM at that time and was just a nice hard to find date or was it something else? i did save the pics as the NOT so norm rifles i keep for later review. i like the different stock cartouch also.

It's in Mauser Rifles of the World by Ball. I cannot remember what it is - Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian, Somethingeronian.
Ask John Wall.

Its the Imperial Navy firing proof I think, so its a Kaiserliche Marine gun. II.S.B would be the II Seebatalion. Rare gun.
Looks like somebody painted the metal? I'd be curious to see it cleaned up, and with less awful pictures.

Eisel had it. The "funky proofs" are British.

Not a surprise Streed picked it up, he and a couple others vacuum up most of the decent rifles. This one has a few problems but is pretty worthwhile considering it being Seebataillon. Vaughn, I wrote a piece on these naval Gew.98's awhile back, you should have the issue (August 2010), it might help a little.
