Small correction, but since this is a rifle related forum:

Buesche=bushes

Buechse=rifle

So as not to confuse more, I don't know how to make a standard (US) keyboard do the umlaut. It is acceptable in German to substitute the letter e after a letter with an umlaut, which is what I did above. If you want you can imagine the two words I just wrote with two dots above their U's and without the E's following the U's instead.

For Pisgah:

Büsche - Bushes

Büche - Rifle

Thanks WaPrüf2- that link was dead for me. There is a way to do umlaut's with the standard keyboard (On a Windows machine go to "Accessories/System Tools/Character Map" for a complete list). Hold down the "Alt" key, and as you hold it down you push a 4 digit code in to replace the letter. For:

ü - use "Alt 0252"
Ü - use "Alt 0220"
ß - use "Alt 0223" - this is the sharp s, can replace "ss" in a word, such as Anschluß or Anschluss as shown by WaPrüf2
ö - use "Alt 0246"
Ö - use "Alt 0214"
ä - use "Alt 0228"
Ä - use "Alt 0196"

I tried the alt plus the digits and still can't get it to work. Maybe it's my work computer or more likely I'm still not doing it right. Thanks though.

You have to hold Alt while typing the digits. When you release Alt, the character will print.

I did that. All I get is the page shifting down when I press the second digit.

Never mind. I'm okay now.
