Sweet

Love that under-bolt spaghetti ! For some reason it is hard to find these early bnz's in super condition like this. I have never found one like this to add to my stable.

Sweet piece Craig. I agree with Jack you dont see too many in that condition- and you cant beat a clean stock like that! I've always had a soft spot for Steyr

Okay, dumb question, the answer to which I should know: The stock doesn't look sanded at all. so no stock proofs on the right? I know Steyr used the E/H in '45 and the full set (E/H,L,M and E/623x2)in '40-41. What did they use in 42-44?

Beautiful rifle Hambone, completely unmessed with, can you tell me if the cleaning rod is numbered or not on your "42"???????

Tks guys. WaA, the rod is unnumbered. Rod numbering, as well as guard screw numbering stopped in 1941 and was not occurring in 1942 generally, except perhaps very early.

I am referencing this post from the archive, because I am about to have a stock made from lez stocks and I have a very similar rifle to this although not original. Its a BNZ 42 f block as well...

Should there not be an eagle and a Heer acceptance stamp?

Awesome rifle, have a bnz41 f block myself, and a j block which is nice because of the 1942 style proofing. Glad to see more pictures of this rifle, its on page 631 of Karabiner 98K IIB for reference.

Nope, perhaps earlier. Generally if it is an early block with the 1941 H band it will still have 1941 pre austerity production features such as the externally numbered stock and inspections. Tks Aaron.

So just to confirm no Heer Mark and no eagles on the right side of the stock? Numbers on the outside on the heel of the stock and a single eagle acceptance proof on the wrist? Does this sound correct before I send off my instructions

Tiny e/623 on the pistol grip IIRC.

Edit: Look at the last pic I posted back then.

I see it clearly I am just very surprised that styer rifles were not accepted in the same format that german production was with a Heer or Luftwaffe purchasing stamp along with an eagle inspection mark. Is there a reason for this?

I think I just answered my own question. Steyr I guess is just a strange factory. The inconsistency on that for it to be a known thing is mind numbing. I would like there to be a logical reason for this rather than just assuming it’s the result of the factory being run by a relatively rural and country population compared to a more proper and established industry like that of Mauser or Sauer.

So final questions before I send off my purchase order... Only a styer waffenampt on the wrist. Are there serial numbers on the heel or in the barrel channel and under the handguard?

I would drill and bolt those Huge Aluminum Nazi Boxcar Eagles on both
sides of a new made repro k98 stock as to not mislead any unsuspecting
buyer 10 years down the road by trying to make it better or bestest than original.
