This is the rework Oberndorf 1916 that I won a while back. Its a really nice gun, the pictures don't do the stock justice. It has a lot in common with an Amberg 1916 that Bob in Ohio posted some time ago.

This is also my first counterbored Gewehr; it's odd to think that such details excite me these days. Anyway, here are the numbers:

Nice rifle Cyrus, you manage to find nice (and interesting) reworks!

Sure the suffix isn't an "u"? At least in these pics it looks like an "a" or "u"? The link isn't working?

Note the crown on the barrel shoulder=counterbored muzzle.

Paul, you're dead-on about the suffix; my mistake! I'll update my table.

Where do you suppose the stock came from? My guess was DWM.

Not sure about the link. Google changed their photo album settings, its very annoying. I'll see what I can do.

Cyrus, I'd have to see the stocks acceptance to give a good guess. I will check the link again later, maybe I can get in this time!

The camera didn't focus correctly, the wood grain messes with it sometimes. If you need a clearer one let me know.

The link finally worked, so I was able to sneak in an do a little plundering... regarding the stock, I would say it is off an early 1916 Mauser Oberndorf based upon a couple things. The recoil and the wrist are typical of late 1915-early 1916, and while the buttstock acceptance is not a great match, it compares best with Mauser's 1915-1916 range than others I have trended.

DWM and Mauser had some similarities though, so I wouldn't give it up entirely. It isn't Saxon or Bavarian, with that cypher of course, and it isn't an Prussian arsenal imo either.
