Hi all
I need an advice regarding this MP44 pouch. bcb 1944 marked.
is it a well known early pouch, a very late type or a true post war fake ??

It LOOKS right as far as construction and materials, although I don't know about the single flap...I thought that was only on the early pouches...

The big problem is of course these are so widely faked, and they are getting REALLY good at faking and aging them...

If I saw this on a table or from someone at $100 or so I would grab it regardless...but if it is big $$$ I would be very careful...

Hambone might have some good insight.

I'm not feeling it due to the construction and markings. I'm by no means close to an "expert" on these and I'd hate for you to miss a good pouch, but I'm not a fan of it and wouldn't buy it without alot more research.

Leather looks like all the rest of the "Czech." type repros out there, same with the aging. This looks more like an MkB42 pouch anyways.

I would stay away from it.

This is actually the most common type of pouch seen in photos, but the fakes are such that unless you can find someone who specializes in MP44 pouches the general collector can't tell the difference.

What do you think farb? If it was a question about MP.40 pouches I feel like I could respond intelligently.

Yeah, I've seen enough MP40 pouches to tell. For me I'd say this pouch has a chance of being real, but I am not a collector of MP44 pouches. Most of the fakes I see have a certain method they use to fake them with which requires getting them wet, and you can always see that. This one doesn't look like that. Like mentioned earlier, if someone offered it to me at $100 I'd buy it, but otherwise I wouldn't buy it (again, I don't collect them anyway).

Some things about this pouch I like and some I don't like.

If legit it is an early pouch (single flap) used with Mkb42's, MP43's and MP44's.

They had complaints as mags would fall out and then they moved to the multi-flap design.

Overall the "style of construction" is correct (stitching, rivets, snaps). However, Czech fakes also copy these original "styles of contruction" and they even use original cloth and old leather. Two easy give aways of fake pouches: one is they often have leather top flaps (Yugo styled copies) or fake pouches have the buckle styled spare parts/loading tool pouch flap top covers. On late pouches they try to copy prestoff by using leather and not prestoff, another dead give away.

I don't want to turn you off a good pouch either, but I would have some doubts.

Use common sense, price and the dealer as a judge. Some dealers will refund you if you find out an item is fake and other dealers are fly by night.

ATF sells repro pouches for $280, so I might pay that for these pouches. If they are real at that price you get a deal, if they are fake - you bought an expensive repro.

I don't know if I'd feel worse telling Xavier it was fake and it was a real one he missed or telling him it was real and it turned out a fake. I think, as Farb said, it turns on the price. Tks for the info Agentcq!

If there are this many concerns on a piece...it may be best to walk away. Those concerns will always follow this item.

Originals always speak for themselves...this one certainly does not, in my mind.
