View Full Version : Question RE: German rework of a Polish wz.29?

I recently purchased a Polish Wz.29, and on inspection I discovered that the barrel is German, marked for Steyr, and the front sight post is expoxied on. Both the rear and front sight assemblies are correct for the Wz.29, not a K98k. The seller is now claiming that it was a German depot repair. I can find no marks on the receiver or stock to indicate that it went through a German depot, and nothing to suggest that it wasn't rebarreled at any time post-war. Is there any possibility that it was a German wartime rebarrel job?

Any serial number on the barrel?

Can you show the rest of the barrel where there might have been a SN and fire proof?

That barrel was installed on a K98, then put on this gun...

Not that I found. Certainly not in the usual spot on the left side.

My guess is the barrel isn't indexed the same as it was from the factory so you need to look at the whole thing...
Try to find the 7.9 mark ....

I agree. The amateurish sight installation is a dead give away.

Some more pics.

There's even shavings in the barrel channel where it was planed to fit the barrel.

OK, I am no gunsmith but this is what I think I see..

The step near the receiver and also the step for the rear site have been milled off to allow the hand guard to fit and to set the rear site back where it needed to be for this gun.

the barrel could be a '44 un-numbered Steyr with just part of whats left of the fire proof...

Here is the 98a I have in the trader. Might be the same as yours and look at how far off the K98 site is....

Lastly,

I have never seen a Depot replaced barrel that didn't have proper FP applied.
