I would'nt consider you putting it in the book. I just thought you wanted to see one quick after we spoke about it last night. I knew it had to still be there..
I know few members have the early type kit.. B-i-o and radoman come to mind.

long barrel version

Anybody got any version of an EL24 G98/K98b length?

C.B. I saw a single shot version that sold on g.b. a year or so ago. Raul said it was sold for export to Argentina for the Mod1909 long rifle. He's quite knowledgeable on these things.

Bruce- might have what you need ... let me know and I will reshot.
These are the 5 sec set from yrs ago

Data and images

Bob if you can get me an image set, wil add a few to the section on 22 kits.

Thats the ticket! Bill G has one also and a Navy marked one so will get interesting.

Will increase section size if content dictates it.

Thanks to all.

B.

Barrel length

CB has a good point. Jon and Lockhoven commented to me that the single shot kits were developed in 1924 hence the EL24 designation, and were primarily used by
police and civilians. If mainly for police and civilian use, that would explain the short barrel length as the bulk of rifles in police use in the mid-1920s would have been the
Kar98a and not Gew98 or Gew98(M).

The magazine version was not put into production until 1936 or 1937.

Any dates on these magazine versions would be helpful - any dates other than 1937?

Also Haenel also manufactured the boxed kit and that was interesting. Trying to get more data on one example.

I can vouch for the seller - Marcin Piorko of Warsaw, Poland - implicitly. I have dealt with him for many years, and just concluded another LARGE deal with him.

The Prussian police use of the EL24 is well documented with period material and reported as such in the police section I wrote for the Simpson book. The Bavarian police did use the Kar98b.

I have dealt with Marcin too.

A fellow near me has an early EL24 for sale it has a few issues. He is asking 700.00. If anybody is interested, I will send you some info. I have no connection to this kit or seller.

Anybody got any version of an EL24 G98/K98b length?

According to D114 (Description of the E.L.24) from October, 7th 1935 (reprinted in 1939):

"The E.L.24 and the E.L.24 m.M. can be used with any Mod.98 rifle, (G98, K98a, K98b and K98k) if the caliber of the rifle is bigger than 7.9 mm on the narrowest spot.

To zero the gun with E.L.24 the rear sight of G98 and K98b has to set at 550m, K98k at 400m"

The manual only mentions "Schusswaffen98".

Probably the original E.L.24 (introduced in 1924) had a longer barrel. Never seen one.

Have one E.L.24 in my collection with a shortened barrel, to fit the G33/40.

Are you only discussing the military issue in your article? Of course with commercial production, Erma tailored the EL 24 (Erma Einstecklauf Modell I) to a variety of rifle calibers and actions.
