I have an 1906 Amberg Gew. 98. Serial number 4468 (not all is matching). It says S/42. It is 42 inches long, has some crowns and old German letters (is that the unit?). It pretty much looks like a K98. I assume the receiver has been reused and the rifle has been turned into a K98?

If anyone has any info for me about the history, I would appreciate it.

Your barrel was replaced in the 30's..
It looks like it has a post war stock on it now.
Can you take the action out of the stock?
Can you post better pictures of the sling?

Welcome to the forum!

I agree with TA, though I would like to see the muzzle end as it looks suspicious, but it might just be the picture. What is the length of the barrel itself?

Clear images of the top and right receiver would help, as would the barrel markings under the stock. It will give an idea of when it was re-barreled. You say, "not all is matching", can you be more specific? Is the stock matching? Is the rear sight? Stocks are the most important part of a rifle when it comes to deciphering the history of the rifle.
