G.98/40 hoods

G98/40 hoods are pretty round, even more so than the sacred thick metal hood of the bnz 45 Kriegsmodell. I'm posting some example pix. As always with anything desirable which you may have in your parts box and may not currently need, you should contact me immediately so that I can send you a postal money order for a retail type amount for your item.

The first picture is typical. The second one may be a repro. I know they make them but have never purchased one or seen one that I knew to be a repro but in this case the hood is nearly new and doesn't match the finish on the rifle. The last one is also a puzzler in that it is smaller than the typical G98/40 hood. May just be a normal variant--I believe the rifle wearing it is a jhv 44.

Great pics!

The repro’s I’veseen have a sort of heat treated look to them and are less blue. Not sure about yours as it does have moreblue than the rifle but that could just mean that someone matched them uplater.

A couple more pics for reference. The one with the pitted muzzle is a 43m. Rifle must have been stored muzzle down butis otherwise immaculate. Also showing acomparison photo of 98/40, 33/40 and 98k hoods.

Oh, one other comment. These are always in demand and I have heard of some outrageous prices being paid. With that in mind I bought the second from the right about 2 years ago for like $40 BIN. If you are looking it pays to be persistent.

Perfect. I needed a G33/40 front sight hood pic. They are a bit similar to the Yugo M48 hood and I knew a photo would be better than words to illustrate the difference. I guess the G33/40 hood is a bit smaller than the Yugo M48 hood.

Yes, the 33/40 hoods are more squat than the m48 hoods whichare taller, and if I recall, smaller from front to back. Once I thought I hit the mother lode with a33/40 hood on epay only to receive an m48 hood. You win some, you lose some.

Okay, I would like to give this a shot guys. I already build the KM stock caps on a limited basis. I do not own a 98/40 hood or rifle for that matter unfortunately, so if I could get somebody on board with taking some measurements for my indicated areas I could begin the prototype process. I will draft up a drawing with blank values to make it even easier. If somebody would be so kind as to shoot me a PM, then there's a possibility I could make these. Thanks guys!

Quick question - can someone link the second thread which flynaked posted about? Looking for G98/40 front sight hood dimension. Perhaps a fool's errand. But maybe a machinist could make one. Thanks.
