Thought someone may like seeing some photos of a recently excavated German trench in the Alsace sector of the Western Front. 21 German remains recovered along with some very well preserved equipment and trench duckboards. I would love to open up the Artillery Luger holster and see how the Luger inside looks. There are a couple of well rusted Gew98's in there too.

These time capsules are always interesting.... I guess they will be discovering these things for the next hundred years also.
 
I didn't think of this before, but...

Did the Imperial German Army use ID tags in WWI in the same manner the Wehrmacht and WSS used them in WWII? I wonder if these have survived in this case. If so, it's only right to repatriate those men back home. That, in fact, is the most important part of this excavation.

Yes, the Imperial German Army did issue "dog tags" starting well before the Great War so they should be present with the remains under these circumstances.
