German Modified Vz24

Bolt Mismatch. The germans did quite a bit of woodwork with this one.

They added the E/26 takedown discs, pluged the wrist swivel, cut a slot for a K98 sling, serialed the front band and also serialed the heel of the stock between the wrist and bottom sling swivel.

Surpringly, with all the work this rifle recieved the only german proofs are the E26s. I also find it interesting they went through the trouble of cutting a sling slot and plugging the wrist swivel...but kept the front and rear bottom sling swivels. I would think they wouldve also serialed the tiggerguard/floorplate and rear band.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to these reworked VZ24's. I just picked up a similar one except it has no sling cutout for the 98k style sling, has the side swivel removed, and the whole gun is numbered in German fashion. Bolt takedown on mine is Ksl 6 inspected. If I get time I'll post pics of it.

Dont forget, they blued the bolt too. :)

Nice vz. Every one of these seems to be unique in their configuration. The one thing I've never seen or even heard of is a depot accepted example. Perhaps the work being performed in the lower echelons (regiment, division, etc) might account for the variety...

Other than waffenamts, what are the identifiers to look for on a Vz.24 to see whether or not it was German reworked or in German use? I'm looking at a Romanian contract right now at a local shop with a scrubbed redciever a block front sight protecter, and s really nice dark wood stock the serial is ER 1050xx...I thnk.

A Romanian contract Vz-24 is likely not going to have seen German usage. Remember that the Romanians were an ally of Germany during most of the war. The problem with the Romanian Vz-24's is that most of them were reworked postwar and it is difficult to find one with an intact crest and original matching parts.

Everything on the rifle is serialized and matchin except the bolt. They also have s Vz.24/47 that has a Waffenamt on the stock pin...not sure what its called but its that metal lug through the center of the stock. And a crest that has a date of 1943

It sounds like you're describing a Yugoslav 24/47. If so, the 1943 date on the (postwar) crest commemorates the re-opening of the Kragujevac arsenal under Partisan control. What is written on the left side of the receiver?

I agree with what's been expressed about the German re-worked VZ-24s. I bought one recently that's no doubt German used, but has some of its own, almost unique aspects. Nice rifle, THunter! I like it.

I know of German depot marked VZ24's, I don't have one (yet). It's very difficult to figure out where the work on these was done, I agree. The depot markings on the disc don't mean this is the location of the work in my opinion, but who knows for sure since they aren't marked.

For me, some of the indicators of German reworked VZ24 rifles are:

1- German style serial numbering on parts
2- Disc added to stock
3- Wrist swivel removed/plugged
4- Blued bolts
5- Lower swivels removed/cut for German sling

Not all of these seem to show up on any 1 gun, but sometimes its a mix.

This is the only one that I have. It is still all matching with the original Czech parts (bolt, stock receiver). The bolt has been blued and has very faint pencil etched numbers on its components. It has also been rebarreled using a salvaged WW1 Gew98 barrel. The proof on the toe of the stock appears to be HZajt20

That's a Vz.24, at least that what was stamped on the reciever.

The eagle over 607 inspection markings on the right of the receiver ring say that it is an early G.24(t)--i.e. likely a blank top receiver ring and retained Vz-24 marking on the siderail. The price you stated is very good for this rifle. Follow the link to read more on the G.24(t):

The article is a bit old but still has good info.

I'm so upset right now...I should have bought that when I had the chance! Damnit! My god I'm pissed...that would have been a diamond in my collection.

I told you it was a G.24(t) in early February (when you posted the photos the first time) and told you it was an excellent price! Oh well. The good news is that it seems you have a decent "honey" hole. I think I would be visiting that shop pretty frequently.

This shop always has some amazing and rare rifles the other one I have my eye on is a modified Gew.98 all matching double dated 1917/1920 danzig with nazi proofs.
