Following are two cuts from emails received on Feb. 10.

Should be of interest.

First:

I saw and interesting discussion on the GB 98k site about Spare parts and there markings etc. I have an Original 4 page Mauser firm headed document from 1940 on what goes into the standard issued Waffen Meister Case for the 98k , Luger and Bayonets. There were 6 bolts in each case which had also been test fired and proofed! Also the cost calculation for the parts is inlcuded. You will get a copy of this when you need it! Hope all is going well with the printing? Take care, Regards, Jon

Second

I just now spoke with Hans Lockhoven who mentioned that Mauser Oberndorf and Berlin firms also made up similar Waffen Meister cases for the Air force and Marines. All parts in these cases went through normal inspection and were WaA marked . Bolts were all test fired for proof and WaA marked , There were No serial numbers on any of these parts! Its possibe but not confirmed that other firms may have been contracted to make up such parts cases as may have other of the main 98k manufacturing frims!!?? Regards, Jon

Very Interesting .I will post some Pics I took of some Armorers Bolts , Bolt Bodies and a Gas Shield .
Hope You Gents enjoy these Miniscule Pics .I know I am one of the Lower Level 98K Collectors here at this Board
My main Interest is Romanian Captures with Bubbafied Scopes added . So Please forgive .Bet You did not expect this from me . Surprise!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Dave,

Thats a real sweet FN bolt ya go there :)

I notice that your Astrawerk bolt lacks the Firing proof. This is the same with three of my Astrawerks

I dont think they were marked with one.

My two Polish Armorers bolts and my "42" - E/655 bolt both display the Final proof.

I think that goes back to an armorer's bolt vers. a factory bolt..

..

I think you are right TA. Although the "jury is out" on the Astrawerks, I too think these were armorers bolts lying in the Tool drawer then pressed into service.

Put these here for now....

Armorers bolt

If the bolt was processed to go into an armorers kit it would have the FP (reference Speeds response).
I am sure many extra parts were liberated at Weimar when the US Army transited through the area.
This could explain why the occurence of more Astrawerke marked blank bolts versus Mauser or Steyr.

That makes sense.

Here's four armorers floorplates I have:
