This K43 was brought back from Bertchesgarden by a vet from the 13 Armor. All matching. I have about 30 more pictures if needed.

Yes, I now also remember that listing and thought about bidding on it as I have one that was probably in the factory at the same time (913 rifles his older brother) and when I went back, it had ended early. It is a very nice example. congratulations.

Ed has a very good reputation. He certainly left no doubts with the amount of pics! I wish all folks would describe in that detail. I thought it didn't sell because it di not have any bids?

NICE n block.. this rifle is just after walther switched to phosphate and it has the late gas system.. The only issue is the idiot mark that was recently done with the removal of the site hood.. Ouch !! Other than that is seems un-touched... the browning I feel is just the dried grease or oil. The stock also is a little dark form the same thing I imagine. All around a nice one..

Ahhh, That's where it went. :)
Congratulations, really is a nice rifle and basically left "untouched" since the war. So hard to find a G/K43 like this anymore.

Kinda looks line an n block to me. Ive got 6008n which I just took to the range a week or so ago for the first time. Interesting experience, my son is working some video footage for everyone to look at in a week or so. Stay tuned!

Thanks everyone. Bigdibbs88 I had something Ed wanted.... and he had this! And I got it from his store. Ed takes great pictures and always describes well. I am happy with it. Barrel code is "dtk 48 44". Ed does not clean, remove or embellish the gun in any way:googlie. He did not take off the site hood, it came that way(thank gawd the hood was with it!). It is all matching,a little brown, but not rusty, and when I was rumaging looking for a scope in my storage, I came across a K43 mag in better condition I forgot I had. Now I know why to keep a nice to have pile!

Looks like the K43 rough cast receivers were introduced somewhere late in the M block. I was curious about the barrel number to see if per chance had been assembled in 1945 from parts and pieces, but I would say definitely not. My N block is around 3000 later than yours yet it has the milled receiver and is marked G43 AC44. Barrel code is close too, mine is "DTK 46 44". Congrats on a very nice example!

All G/K43 receivers, pretty or not, are forged not cast. The roughness is simply the elimination of the receiver polishing step to save time combined with dies that were probably not cleaned or only haphazaradly so. Like anything else, I imagine forging dies get quite nasty after several hundred operations. I'm not a manufacturing engineer, but I suppose the die has to cool, be taken out of service, manually scrubbed or blasted, etc, all of which takes a lot of time the Germans simply didn't have.
I like the gun BTW:thumbsup:

Ryan,
Good points and basically correct. On many late AC45 examples, you can still see the slag left in the dies in certain areas at times on the surface of the reciever.. Merely a cosmetic thing. Why waste time cleaning the dies out when you can produce a functional product.

Sorry my bad, forged not cast.... The receivers used in the BCD rifles and a good number of the AC rifles were cosmetically machined...

Thanks, shows the left over slag from the dies quite well on these pics.

On my ac-44 scoperail removed,it is a pretty gun, versus this one. My newest looked like it had a crack but it is a fold in the slag. Thanks for all the nice comments.
