I acquired this at a pawn shop last week. It's a Mauser made late war "dual-tone" P.38 pistols made for the German police. Condition on this one is exceptional with a perfect bore and very little exterior wear. Here are some pics.

Great find.
I have a mint Police holster. If you are interested please let me know.

I think the 2 belong together. :)

I hope I am not breaking any rules here, I am just trying to maybe help a fellow collector.

Thanks for the offer but I'll have to decline it. The holster looks great but I'm not big on accessories.

Take some advice from a veteran...get that holster because some day you will want one to go with it and you will not find one as nice....just saying....

p38

I must say thats the nicest p38 ive seen in a while... Also, I have to agree with jack... One thing that really boosts the value is building a rig... The correct holster and the spare mag will only boost the value.. I always put rigs together when I could and made out very well.. If you can get the holster right you'd be a fool not to grab it.. Just saying..

They sell those Russian holsters in bulk at the big shows...

Just sayn...

..

The chance of finding a Police marked one is pretty slim. I agree with Jack: buy it if you can as they are seldom seen. I would if your pistol were mine.

Thanks for the advice on the holster fellas but I really doubt this pistol was ever part of a "rig" so I don't feel the need to recreate what never was. There isn't any wear to indicate that it ever saw the inside of a holster. By the time the pistol was manufactured in early '45 the transportation infrastructure had been blown to bits and this piece probably sat in a crate till liberated by a GI. Now if I could find the crate....?
