A Blast from the Past (Auctions from 5 yrs ago)

Wow, thanks for sharing those, Bob! My favorite was the "German Military Automatic-Mean looking SOB" with the $600 Buy It Now price.... I wasn't even a member of auction arms 5 years ago, so it looks like I missed out on alot of good stuff. :facepalm:

These are recent auctions I posted on a thread in Gunboards for price support on a rifle. I realize there is some inflation built into the increases over time, but there is substantial price growth as well. If this continues maybe the "Nazi K98 42 code 1938 WOW ! Nice !" seller's dream will come true.

Wow, I like the bnz for 500! I wonder what prices will look like in 5 years from current.

I bought that gun- it had an unsanded dot44 stock on it with a nice bnz44 action..I parted it out. :facepalm:

Still, it saved a dot44 somewhere.

Thanks BiO. Very interesting. I won #6. Nobody bid on it and I got it for $895. It's a wonderful matched, untouched ar 41. It had a cocoon in the bore which cleaned to mirror mint and a folded up newspaper page from 1946 under the handguard.

.... the 5 year bump :thumbsup:

I will make a serious attempt at this later today, but there has been so much overpriced, misrepresented crap and crazy prices for junk that I am not sure if I can put together a list like the one from 2010.

Oh, and the "Nazi K98 42 code 1938 WOW! Nice!" Seller's dream did come true. He sold his heavily-buffed, butt-ugly, RC 42 1938 with a stock showing sanding a half-inch deep in places for $799 via Buy it Now. It took about four years of recycling the same three-day auction over-and-over, but he did it.

From what I remember of 2005-2006 this was not the norm. All these auctions less one have One thing in common. Bad listings and poor photos. I got a kick out of seeing a couple of Larry's auctions up there when he used auction arms before switching to GB his photo and listing skills have improved.

The best deal I saw was the BCD g43 for 600.00 That guy was an idiot. I don't recall that auction.

If you look today you will still see plenty of stuff going way below market. You just have to look. Even though it was great going down memory lane...

The best deal I saw was the BCD g43 for 600.00 That guy was an idiot.

+1 Bear in mind, Falarmco is a professional arms dealer but one who was obviously too lazy to research what "G43" means. Half of the words used in his item description are unnecessary, useless, and have no bearing in regards to the item he sells. He confuses "549a" with "5492" but at least admits he has "NO Clue", something I already figured after only reading the title of the auction.

R = Reserve Auction with Reserve Met
RNR = Reserve Auction with Reserve Not met but not relisted (e.g. likely sold off-line)
BIN = Buy it Now
NR = No Reserve Auction
RNMR = Reserve Auction with Reserve not met but relisted

ANALYSIS

Unlike Gunauction.com, Gunbroker auctions disappear after a few months. It is difficult to say whether prices are up or down from these results. I will say that it seems the volume of rifles for sale seems to be increasing, but not necessarily the quality. As time goes by, good rifles find their way into permanent collections while lesser rifles are altered by dishonest sellers trying to make a dollar. There are multiple examples in this list where dishonesty paid well. Still, in these results are examples of some great buys. The 42 1938 was a good buy as was the DOT 44 SKM and the BYF 44 “L” block with bayonet.
