new lid.. M35 s.d. K.M. named.

I sniffed this out at the last Allentown show and thought it was nice enough to post. This helmet represents the last of the M35 shells used and aul. banded m31 liner system. Contrary to what some collectors think there are always items in any field that dont comply to the norm. This helmet is one. This is a late M35 shell built up to M40 specs and the liner bares the last of the aul. bands and chin strap bails. One cool thing is it has one of each 1/steel and 1/aul. bail.
After using the lot list there is a confirmed range of late SE m35 shells built up as s.d. K.M. helmets. I cant stress enough the importance of the lot list to nail down patterns of Helmets. Especially Km and SS lids.. This helmet has the second pattern K.M. decal. Decals can tone giving many Heer decals a gold hue and this is why there are tons of post on helmet site asking the old question is it a toned army or K.M. I was always told and now I know once you have a navy lid you will never ask this question again.. As far as patterns I can say first hand this is a legit variant. As I own two. And both were assembled the same way. Both have mixed bails. Enjoy..

Thats a great looking helmet. Love its colour. Same type of configuration that you sold me on the big luft. LATE M35, with alum liner, and SD. Its a cool variant.

A really nice original helmet!

I got to see this helmet shortly after Wayne bought it at the last Allentown show. It's one of those artifacts that just talks to you, if you know what I mean.
NICE!

BEAUTIFUL SD KM M35s!

Nice SD KM's! What was the lot number of the second?

Some of those mixed bale liners can also be comprised of a rounded aluminum bale as well (shaped like a zinc bale but made of aluminum---probably a short lived variation).

thanks

the other is 6323 which is much higher.. I just figured this one was on file as it was sold publicly to me a year or so ago.. The lot list I use is compiled from helmets posted and sold here there and everywhere.. I do plan on buying you're book at some point.. Does you;re book list para shells as well ?

Yes. My book includes M35/M40/M42 and their beaded counterparts with ventless (M45) examples in addition to Para M36/M37/M38. All six helmet factories are listed; ET(ckl), SE (hkp), Q, NS, EF, and qvL/bvL.
One nice thing about the book is that it illustrates where in the list factory decals were dropped. This can be helpful when contemplating the purchase of a purported 'factory decaled' helmet.

b.t.t. for nick.. I have found a third. This one actually has a Property name tag sewn to the leather liner. This is the first I have seen. The name, Then "N" for Nordsee Fleet & inventory number ?/ 42 date ?
This helmet is another Late M35 built early in 1940. I have been lucky enough to find three of these helmets. This is another SE maker but, with a five digit lot number. Typical flaking of the decal as with all of these but, still a high percentage of the eagle remains.
