Heres the later purchase, and later rifle. Its 3496 ff. So this is like 180K later than the other one in the n block? Am i doing that right? how many of these things did they make that year?! Anyway I bought it because it just had a lot of character even tho I had a 1916 Danzig already. the price was reasonable too because the stock had some damage. theres two notches cut in to the stock ahead of the finger groove on the RH side. also there were what appeared to be stains around the finger grooves and receiver. So the gentleman was good enough to take a few dollars off! When I got it home and took a closer look at the stains, it appears to be from it wearing a bolt cover for a long time -- i put one next to the rifle in some of the pics to illustrate the point. the stains line up perfectly with the bolt cover when you snap it on. the notches I have no idea. though its clear they're old and deliberate. I'll tell you tho if you simply hold the rifle and slide your left hand forward your fingertips fall nicely in to the notches. might be that simple. grip just like the grooves. although i don't know that the germans would approve of defacing the weapon in that fashion.
