Picked this up today, finally after agreeing to purchase this about a month ago. This was sent home by a GI to PA, the same GI was later killed in action at Anzio.

The scope is marked "dym" , "+" and a triangle. Base is serialed 20010f, "duv" and waffen 214. It retains both shades. Optics are foggy. Can is also serialed 20010f and does not retain any of the accessories, ie.. brush and cloth.
Photos attached, last one it is mounted on my ar 42, zf41.

this is a very, very late scope rather to be put on a 44 or 45 rifle. Congratulation, tan cans with gun # are very rare, even more with this rare scope. What is the scope number (to be found on the ocular)?

I did not look on the suffix. 44 is of course more likely. I am not yet able to know on which k98 maker the scope was mounted by looking at the gun# on the mount. Sometimes I hopefully will. At the moment I am more into MP44 accessories.

How could a GI who was killed at Anzio have picked up a late 44 zf41 rig? Looks like a nice piece anyway I have not seen many dym marked ones

I would say a BYF 44 rifle.
do you agree ?

could be a byf43 or 44 both used a 5 didgit with that letter suffix... Those are the only two it could be.. Someone who knows more about the scopes could narrow it down even further..

Very nice rig by the way...

I think the change from ordinace green to tan started in later 43.

well, it was sent home from anzio it would of had to be a byf43 ???

According to the family, he was killed at Anzio and sent this home prior to that time. Anzio, took place from Jan- May 1944. Trying to find the date he was KIA, have verified that with the state archives however no date was posted. Did find his enlistment record, having enlisted in August 30, 1943 at the age of 18.

Yes thought about sending it out for cleaning, however I prefer to leave it as is, with unturned screws and etc.

well..

so going off the letter block a month theory. that would be Juli 43 or 44 so that narrows it down to it being a byf43 zf41. For whatever reason There seems to be alot of snipers in the f block in 43/44
