german typeface question!

odd question and not really sure where tyo put it so -- looking to identify the german typeface used on much of the ammo/transit/storage crates and chests made during the war. not the "Blacktype" (like the NYTIMES logo) bu the clean simple face -- one example is in folke myrvang's excellent MG34/42 book (pp 360-364 for examples) and the k98 chart in BBOTW frontspiece seems to use a variation. any idea? strange question i know but need it for a project! thanks

The two typeface fonts used were Buchschrift (or Fraktur) which is what you described, and Altschrift (or Antiqua), but it's neither of those.

I bet it's DIN 1451. Here is a free download of one version of it (from what I know there are a lot of variations of it. Using DIN 1451 you should be able to find the one you want):

well mike i shoulda known u would have it! and funny but in my searches i also found that currently used signage that fit the bill! kinda strange. also in my search I read a couple things that indicated that hitler changed the "official" typeface from fractur because he considered it a "jewish" type. kinda funny that they stuck with his change to this day. well they still like to drive fast on his autobahns ......thanks as always my friend! I'll share the project when its done ;)
