CCC in silver Soldbuch & document set

Hello,

A few weeks ago I added this rather complete document set to my collection and I must admit that I don’t really know how to write a thread about it.
Walter Bloß (°1914) was civil servant in the city of Hamburg and during the entire war he served with IR90, first as a platoon sergeant later as a lieutenant company commander and as an officer in the staff of GR90 and GR1224.
He saw action in Poland ’39, France ’40, Russia 41’-’44, German-Dutch border ’44/’45 andfinally in the battle for Berlin in ’45.
He got wounded 8 times in this period (one of his wounds was a heavy concussion he gotwhen his vehicle collided with a Russian tank!) and was decorated with EKII& I, all three classes of the wound badge, Infantry Sturm badge in bronze and close combat clasps bronze & silver.

I think it is best that I show the entire set in different sections to make it moreenjoyable to read and view the images.
I will start with his Soldbuch that he carried from August ’39 till August ’44; by August '44 his Soldbuch was compleetly full and they issued him a new one, this one was cancelled. Lucky for us collectors it wasn't destroyed and Walter Bloß kept it is a souvenir.

Regards,
Peter

The list used to award him the CCC in silver, by the end of the war he had 31 officially reckognized close combat days (25 are needed for the Nahkampspange II stufe).

- The list used to award the CCC in Bronze was lost because of war circumstances and a new one was made for his CCC in silver.
- On January 8 '44 his vehicle collided with a Russian tank in Buraki, he survived the collision with a heavy concussion; he also got a close combat day for this.
- For the battle of Berlin he also got three close combat days, on April 20 & 21 '45 in Möllensee-Elsensee and one on April 24 '45 in Berlin-Kopenick.
On April 21 '45 he was also wounded for the eight time, a shrapnel splinter in his right index finger.

The award document for the wound badge in black.
On June 20 1940 his company (a MG unit) was facing French troops in Docelles near Epinal, they were attacking the Maginot line forts in the Vosges from the rear.
The French troops refused to surrender and a fierce fight broke out that lasted until the night fell, the French artillery was accurate and his battalion lost 13 men, he himself got a granate splinter in his back.

In the Westfeldzug he also was awarded the EKII, it was awarded on June 21 1940, the day after the fighting in Docelles.
Alas the EKII document isn't a part of this set.
