I agree, - and you can tell by the serial how many were made that year!

The top year for all Imperial era (Modell98 production) by far was Erfurt 1917 Kar98a production.. they made an enormous number of rifles in 1917 (well through the "v v" block!)...

Surprisingly, rifles in your rifles condition are not common though? I mean sure a lot are seen, but 90% plus are mismatch or really crap rifles.. full righteous Imperial configuration are rather tough to find unscrewed up?

Rifles like this one, - matching, 100% original, not prettied up (I think most of the 1917 Erfurt's I have seen that are matching are cleaned up or beautified and have an unnatural look to them) are damn tough to find.

Oh, you see a lot of "property marked" ones too, - very common- but I suspect of the millions of rifles destroyed in the interwar period (and they were destroyed by the hundreds of thousands- confirmed in IAMCC records) I suspect the 1917 Erfurt was very highly represented! (especially when you consider only 18,000 were officially allowed - increased slightly later)

Nice Kar98, excellent pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Paul,
Thank you for the positive comments on my 98a. We all want minty- factory new rifles but I would take this salty un-messed with condition over a collector enhanced rifle any day.
Funny how you have an eye for these guns, I had to check the numbers just to be sure.
Take care..

Nice pics! The rifle is totally right, as you know!

I really have never cared for factory fresh rifles so much? Really prefer them with some honest wear, though not too much abuse.

In the end I take what I can get, as the rifles I like most are not common, and even rode hard they are expensive generally.
