Hello all,

I would like some opinions on this MP44, it is deactivated, and I would like to know whether this one is a good or bad example?

Thanks

A good thing.
But I will set your attention to the fact that the return spring is shortened and deformed, a modern copy of the magazine.
And I have my doubts about the originality of the wooden stock.

Hi I noticed the spring, but I thought the stock and magazine were original, can you let me know why you think they are not? Thanks for pointing these things out, as I didn't notice them! :hail:

I wrote to you in detail in the Wehrmacht awards, there is my nickname Ukrainer.

Sturmgewehr 44 this is my favorite theme.

Thank you, I thought it must have been you, and it was a great help!

I've got a few other questions regarding an StG44...

The metal stock bracket is original, so would it be possible to change the wood stock piece over to an original piece of wood? If so, how does the wood attach to the bracket?

Thanks again

Wooden stock is mounted with two screws through the inside of the steel with brackets.
When you separate the stock of a rifle then see these screws inside the stock.
Take flathead screwdriver and just unscrew them, then put in bracket a new butt and back.

Do not lose in this round washers with denticles. They help the butt does not stagger in the bracket.

Don't know where you got the idea that the mag is "a modern copy", but it is most definately a late war original! I see nothing to suggest that the stock is not also original.
Since this is a butchered dewat it makes no difference that the recoil spring has been shortened - probably done as part of the dewat process since the bolt is really screwed up. It's to bad that the Brits do such a screwed up job of dewating FAs!
Sarge

Sarge,
I will explain to you.

Weapons - this is my business, hobbies, and sense life in general. Especially the German World War II. As a businessman and collector I am obliged understand these things. Different types of fakes are now very much. Exactly fakes - when fake things are sold under the guise of original, intentionally.

MP44 mag, as you can see, has marking FXO - it means Haenel plant, Thuringen.Famous plant Hugo Schmeisser.
Here is the correct original mark mag MP44 production plant Haenel. Blued - Issue 1944, phosphated - Release 1945. And others, Haenel made and FXO marked.

All these mags are original

Take a good look at the font, the depth of the font, in the form of letters, to the arrangement of letters, contour. Now compare this with what I call the copy.

Now the butt. Buttstock this MP 44 completely wrong. Now I'm sure at 100%.

Wrong form holes under the sling attachment belt at the wrong place.

Notching on the back side - it's a shame. Here is the correct notching, and count the number of teeth and look at their depth. It is a standard for a wide butt type.
What you see on the butt we are discussing MP44? Shallow incisions done today.

Sarge, I have been doing German weapons 11 years and have seen a lot of fakes, more skillful than this.
Only experience will help you to distinguish the original.

Those fake MP38's are incredible fakes, and I can't believe how much work they put into them. I've never seen the fake MP18, thanks for posting it!

Well, Jakes convinced me... makes you wonder about rc imports too, - those Ukrainians and Russians aren't stooges when making reproductions. I wonder how long they have been honing their skills.

I for some reason like the look of those MP38's - if only they were sold as 'repros' at repro prices and not the price of originals!!!! A friend of mine here in the UK picked up an deactivated MP38 which turned out to be one of these very convincing fakes. It's scary really - what will they do next???

Unfortunately, too often these copies are sold at the price of the originals. In Ukraine and Russia love to own weapons-grade rarities, but very few people are willing to pay money for a books about these rarities to read and learn to distinguish between them, where a copy, and where the original.Today, I do know that in Ukraine and Russia are copied down to the smallest details such systems.

МР 18.I,МР 28.II, EMP 35, MP 38, MP 41, MP 44, Mkb 42 (H)
PPD 38, PPD 40(Russian Degtyarow SMG, very rare).

Really around 7 years.
Today this all here looks like a little branch of Erfurter Maschinenfabrik or Haenel plant from time WW2.
