I was at a hole in the wall gun show today feeling bummed out because I had just missed a minty byf42 K98k for a pittance. I came upon a gent looking to sell a pistol rig. It had been left to him by his uncle who had been in the US Army in WWII , serving in N. Africa & Italy. The pistol turned out to be a Beretta 418 with a dural frame proofed in 1938. The pistol's in relatively good shape with the exception of the grips which were cracked. Well the price was right and the rig came home with me. I figured the grips were after market but after taking them off I'm not so sure. There's a V shaped metal reinforcing bar embedded in the plastic that ends in a 90* projecting flange that fits perfectly in two divots drilled on both sides of the frame. Has anyone encountered grips of this type before? In any case the pistol is matching. This is the second pre-1945 dural frame Beretta I've encountered. The first was basically a relic offered at a high price that I manfully managed to refuse. I'm happy this one came along. Here are some pics.
