Here's one you might like, matching. Note the front sight was not #'d, I'll assume a manufacturing startup oversight...

Hell yes, - what a wonderful rifle! These pictures are about 10x better than the ones I have from Gunboards-2006 too. I wasn't aware that you snagged it! Nice score, hopefully you didn't pay too dearly for it...

This is a pretty nice rifle for sure, one of nicest, if not the nicest, known to me. Surprisingly the few that are known are in decent shape, about half a dozen with original stocks, - or seem to have their original stocks, sometimes it is difficult to tell when owners-sellers do not image them properly.

Pretty neat that you own two of the rarest wartime makers, - Simson/15 and WOK/15, - any of the consortiums makers in comparable condition? An Erfurt?

As I recall the '15 WOK was ~$1200. That was alot 7 years ago but there was no hesitation on my part...I knew how rare it was and that opportunity wouldn't ever happen again....

I picked up a nice '15 Schilling 2 years ago cheap, m/m bolt body & both action screws. I thought I'd posted pics already, if not maybe on Gunboards? Paul, didn't you flag me on it's auction? If not, maybe Jeff Noll.

Maybe 4-6 years ago I had a '15 Erfurt Gew98 for about a week. It was a steal at ~ $650 as matching but it was misadvertised and had a m/m stock. I sent it back, he reposted it on Gunbroker and as I recall sold it for more $.

4479 b, I have 12 pictures of it and a couple emails regarding it. You didn't mention how you got it only that it was a recent pu and came out of Maine.

It has a sweet JPS barrel on it with the early trademark, not as nice as this one but it is just as rare. Very few VCS/15 are known, half a dozen at best, far less than WOK/15.

BTW, no forum post on the rifle that I have seen, I think the pictures are the ones by email, - but they cover what I need most, though better ones of the stock would be nice. It looks like it might be a period replaced stock? Unit marked, serialed twice along the bottom? Hard to make out but with a Württemberg (I think) IR, I doubt it is original.

Of course unless the stock is mfg original, it would only be for curiosity sake, as I only can record factory original stock on my trends work. I suspect others would like to see it too, if you are so inclined. I do not think it has been posted before, - or I missed it, which would be unusual if you posted it here or on Gunboards-Mauser, as I watch these two areas closely. The only two sites (forums) worth a damn imo.

That's the one I have, got it for about $1100 all said and done. Pretty high for a mismatched stock, but I figured it would be hard to upgrade and at the time I was still pretty new to Gew 98s. I think it was only my third or fourth.

That is an awesome '15 WOK, I am seriously in awe.

PM, glad you got the '15 Erfurt. I would have kept it but was real irritated with the seller, as he had assured me the stock was matching (before he shipped it.) Speaking of shipping the '15 Erfurt, does this look familiar? Best shipping box I've ever received one in, although UPS still managed to step on the lid and break it.

yes, I sure do remember that box, and if I remember correctly his cost to ship wasn't outrageous. Too bad the stock is a mismatch, it really is a pretty red colour.
