1915 VC Shilling Gew98

Here's an old war horse, the '15 VC Schilling I referenced on the '15 WOK thread. It's a m/m bolt body, extractor, action screws, and has an armorer's handguard. Of course it had to outfit it with lid & nice '15 dated sling.

A few more pics. Note from the buttplate marking that it went to Cologne for a repair.

Well it is a very scarce, if not rare, rifle. I have only recorded 3 with pictures, all about this condition, plus a couple other reports, but it seems that they are the least made of the Suhl consortium in 1915. With JPS/15 & CGH/15 many more are recorded, but not many compared to 1916-1917.

All three have "e" suffix rifles, so they collectively made it to that range, but odds are good that VCS were the least represented and possibly could be the lowest maker that year. More Simson/15 examples exist, more Erfurt/15 exist, more WOK/15 exist and although they do not go anywhere near the "e" block, as does VCS/15, my bet is less VCS/15 went out the factory doors.

Though we will never know probably, unless Speed or one of his intrepid researchers are able to find the production documents in Suhl.
