Had a blast talking to old friends and walking the place. Got a trapdoor cadet w/bayonet , then an M1855 poker for my 50/70 trapdoor. My son finally expressed himself in terms I understood an bought two real nice type 99 arisakas !. Did not note any decent gew98's or 98k's for sale as so many boinkered pieces and the rest absolute insane prices. Passed out a some barrel whiskey to friends and all was good.

I did. Saw a lot of K98s too, but would agree with your assessment. Either over-priced junk or very highly priced if decent. I expected the latter but was surprised by how much of the former I saw. Not as many G/K-43s as I expected. I did see a lot of nice Arisakas comparatively, but very little British stuff other than garden variety SMLEs and No. 4s. Was hoping to find some British sniper stuff but came up empty.

There where a few nice K98 rifles I saw get sold Wednesday and Thursday. I had one in my hand ,It was a AX41 depot rifle. Real nice but sold at $3300.00. Saw a 337 1939 sold for 4250.00. Buy Bruce,s friend .LOL. Saw a real nice Bcd phosphate Had that in my hands to, But since I own 2 ,Set it back down,It sold foe $2500.00. Saw a nice Bnz 45 -T block, but way over priced at $3800.00 . It was their last year to. So I did not buy any K98 rifles to fit my collection. Just odds and ends.

I didn't pick up much in Imperial items. Bought a few original stripper clips of German WW1 7.92x57 ammunition, and a few other small items. My buddy picked up two righteous Gew98s though. One of them was from another friend. So I was happy to broker the deal between them both. Other than that traded a sling off and bought one U.S rifle. But, the main reason I go is to see all my friends. So if I buy something cool, and if not oh well.

Fewer K98ks than I expected to see, and most overpriced for their condition. I did see one very nice one in the lobby while eating an $11 pork sandwich. Carried in by a young guy, dou 43, good condition, all matching and excellent untouched wood with original sling and sight hood, $2500.
I am trying to downsize, otherwise I would have bought it.
My only “Mauser” acquisition was a K98k muzzle cover given to me by a friend.
My only purchase was a blackpowder percussion muzzle loading shotgun for a very good price.
Saw some old friends from my Kentucky days, overall a good time.

I gotta say that my first SoS was quite a success. Picked up some nice pieces and a bunch of books for great prices. These will take me a while to work through as they’re a little dirty but in good shape. Can’t wait to tear into some of these books. I never get tired of learning new things. As always it’s good to see old friends and meet new ones.

This was either my 20th or 21st time being at the show, very much enjoyed visiting with old friends. Well worth the trip just for that.

I did not see much in the way of Imperial items I wanted however I did pick up a very nice 1916 dated Deutsche Maschinen Fabrik S98/05 bayonet. One of the manufacturers I did not have.

While at the show I was gifted a rather unique item from a museum in Norway I had done a small favor for a few months ago, a bottle of fuel oil from the KMS Blücher.

Even after being at the show from Wednesday through Saturday I always find it a bit sad when it's over.

That's a VERY cool gift.

And I agree--- it's always good to see folks. I walked to show with several good friends and it seemed like each lap turned up something I missed the first time.
