Oberndorf hand stamp BYF 44 NLB w/ CE43 receiver

Gentlemen,

Here is a diverted receiver assembled by MO. Essentially a NLB BYF44. The unpolished Sauer receiver is cool, as is the tiger striped walnut, factory error SN on handguard, and the SN itself is pretty cool.

Barrel code is 43R135, can’t remember the manufacturer off the top of my head…Romy or something? Anyway, seems like an early barrel for an early 44 BYF. Hopefully some of yall that study codes can chime in.

Only real complaint is the oil/moisture staining in the barrel channel. Other than that I’m a happy camper.

Congrats on the rifle! It's got a lot of interesting things going for it and that is a gorgeous walnut stock on it as well!

That thing is crispy! Much better than the listing photos.

I’ve seen the hole in the sling cutout a few times. Appears sometimes bubba installed a sling stud in there. Does it look threaded?

PatrickD, I certainly do not have hands on the rifle, but the hole in the sling-well looks as if it is in an area of a wood knot and a potion fell out.

R=Ruhrstahl, but only identifies the steel blank provider (source); the barrel maker is WMO (byf) as evidenced by the waffenamt (e/135)

Seen this rifle before but couldn't find it in my trends... maybe senility, maybe wishful thinking, or maybe reminiscing the auction you purchased, but the rifle looks legit to me.

I thought this looked familiar too. Feima supplied unused receiver diverted from JPS. Hand stamped serial number is neat too. Very nice.

Super nice rifle Tom. Like most here, I am always drawn to walnut stocks. That is a really nice and thoroughly correct rifle.

Thank you gents. I hadn't thought much of the hole in the sling cutout, its not threaded and doesn't appear deep enough for anything to have been mounted there. Who knows.

Appreciate it Dan, I've been after a mid/late war walnut rifle for several years after I let go of a super nice BYF43 to fund other things. Lesson learned.
