Mainz-Kastel Depot XII 98k pickup

Picked this up from my FFL today. Very excited to have another depot finally.

Depot XII k98k built on a bcd 41 receiver. Rifle is a bolt mismatch and has a gnarly duffel cut. With the front end pieces long gone. Hoping to find a donor stock to repair this one! Rifle has some interesting subcontractor supplied parts, aswell as maybe the vets initials carved unto it? R D? This rifle looks to have been very close to being ruined forever, as evidence by the wrench marks on the original barrel. Barrel is early 660 production.

Sadly stock has some varnish on it which makes the Hza or WaA stamps in the wood a bit hard to read. Menzel C stamped subcontracted stock. Which has an imperial crossbolt. Bolt release is also imperial. Rear action screw is Ki6? marked. Ax trigger sear, and a e/18 front sight base that didn't get updated to accept a sighthood. Really odd to me considering the 1941 or later production. Stock is 6 - 35- 41 dated. Buttplate is pretty cool.

I paid average russian capture price for this rifle, so I'm pretty happy with it! If anyone has some proper parts that would work on this rifle let me know! I'd love to get this rifle looking as "correct" as I can.

This one has some interesting parts used for sure. I agree that since the stock is matching and with the way it's marked I'd try to repair and clean it up. You can probably find appropriate front end metal. I have an Erma rifle that has a Ki6 marked action screw FWIW.

I'd take this over an ordinary RC, even with the idiot marks on the barrel and the wood butchery.
